Koko & Bosse
Koko & Bosse, 2016. Unique custom made armchair produced by Mats Theselius.
The Koko and Bosse chair is made in collaboration with the embroidery company Tree of Life based in Chennai, India. Koko & Bosse is made in a small edition of four copies. However there are small differences that makes all four of them unique objects.
The design of the embroidery is made by Swedish children book author Lisen Adbåge. The image is taken from her book Koko & Bosse. Lisen and her twin sister Emma Adbåge, who also writes children books, are among the most appreciated children book authors in Sweden of today.
Since I have small kids I’m always in search for nice books for reading bedtime stories. The stories and especially the drawings of both Lisen and Emma Adbåge are wonderful and the kids love them.
Technically the fabric on the outside of the armchair is made of a mix of traditional embroidery, digital print and application technique. The inside is made of nubuck leather. The legs are made of massive steel coated with black oxidation.
Beside my collaborations with different design companies as a designer, I started my own production of unique custom made armchairs in 1999. My first model was made for the White house, the second one to Kremlin. In the last twenty years I have made over 30 different models. All of them use the same wooden frame, armrests and legs. The variations are expressed by the execution of the outside, and the material processing. They are manufactured in a network of different craftsmen in the south of Sweden where I live.
