Arab
Arab. A pair of unique custom made armchairs produced by Mats Theselius.
Two custom-made armchairs commissioned by Erik Erlandsson for his daughters. Erik is legendary for finding Aladdin, the world's most award-winning Arabian horse. Back in the 60s, Erik chartered planes filled with Arabian horses and sold them in Los Angeles. The armchairs came about on Erik's initiative, who had saved the skins of two of his most beloved horses and asked me to make two armchairs for his two daughters. Some of the medals the horses had won were folded into the armrests.
These armchairs are a good example of a project that I would never have come up with myself.
Beside my collaborations with different design companies as a designer, I started my own production of unique custom made armchairs in 1999. My first model was made for the White house, the second one to Kremlin. In the last twenty years I have made over 30 different models. All of them use the same wooden frame, armrests and legs. The variations are expressed by the execution of the outside, and the material processing. They are manufactured in a network of different craftsmen in the south of Sweden where I live.
